Your city-mice and the lizards in my neighbourhood sound like they could form a pretty tough gang 😂

It's funny how different environments raise different personalities. I take it personally when these critters don't so much as flinch when we're so much bigger than they are 😭🤣 At least respect my size!

Thanks for your comment! I'm not a fan of lizards either haha thought the frighten me less for some unknown reason...

My mother had a piece of cardboard on a string with a scoreboard written on it.

Glue traps: however many

Spring traps: however many

And so on down to her fat, lazy cat: 1

Genius! This would motivate me to keep trying and show the mice who they're messing with.

It seemed to work well for her too.

The clear winners were glue traps and her other cat. Both had dozens. I don't remember which of the two was in the lead.

Fiz Soup's avatar

Good to know, will attempt both😅

Good luck in your hunt!

Something else to try: I’ve only had a mouse in the kitchen since I put two of these https://www.chewy.com/bell-howell-ultrasonic-pest-repellers/dp/192635 in there. And that one mouse had a panic attack BEFORE it ran into a trap.

A lot of people say they don’t work, but I think those people are hoping for things that the sonic repeller makers never said they would do. “They don’t work through walls!” Yeah, it says that on the package.

Those mice are so bold! I’ve never had to deal with a mouse problem (I live in the country and have cats), but one year the house was overrun by German cockroaches. After trying every kind of trap, a neighbor gave us diatomaceous earth to put in all the cabinets which was very effective for a while. However, last night I woke up and a cockroach was climbing down my leg…eek! I think we need to resume our attacks.

First off, thanks so much for reading!

Second: Yikes! If a cockroach was on my leg while sleeping I fear I would need to move lol Those might be even worse that mice tbh…

Speaking of which, when I was in Africa and using a hold in the ground as a toilet, cockroaches lived inside and would crawl all over your bum every time you needed to take a dump. After a few months I got used to it and just waited until I finished to shake all the roaches off haha

I would say roaches in the toilet is worse than in the bed, but I guess you can get used to just about anything. Makes me wonder if humans are even more adaptable than cockroaches…

Fiz Soup's avatar

Haha probably cuz I'd take toilet over bed any day😅

Reminds me of when I lived in London, late teens/early 20s. I moved around, but one place I stayed in only for a very short time! Horrible, uncaring landlord. And city mice. Now I’m in the country and I love all my wildlife, including the very respectful and clean mice who occasionally enjoy a feast when I throw some seeds or cereal out of the kitchen window. We had a Pygmy shrew who lived in our living room, but he was toilet trained, apparently, no nasty droppings or anything. He would disappear through a tiny hole behind the fireplace and turned up when he was hungry. I caught him several times. He laughed, and escaped before I could put him outside, so until the winter I provided him with seeds. The next year, he, or his missus, or maybe a distant cousin, turned up in my kitchen. He/she/it (?) ran out of a tiny hole by my feet, and didn’t know what to do next, so I shoooed him back through the hole, and stuffed BluTac into it, and another one nearby. I know they can get outside from under the floorboards, so I wasn’t worried. He took the hint and I miss him. He had such character, I could almost hear him thinking 😂 I have noticed that spiders with tiny bodies, no matter how long their legs are, usually, will be cautious and don’t get bossy. But spiders with large bodies have a brain, and they will NOT be dictated to! I don’t put my foot down (on them) but I have an excellent long-handled spider catcher, and they soon find themselves flying across the garden! But the mice and spiders in London were evil. I don’t suppose it was their fault that they were so dirty, but there were black greasy runways that they renewed every night. I had a small bedsit: just a tiny living room/bedroom, with a fridge in it, and a cupboard that had been turned into a ‘kitchen’, with a cooker and sink.(I shared a bathroom with strangers.) I had to keep all my food in cake tins or the fridge. I couldn’t use the oven, because whenever I opened the oven door mice would jump out. 😱 The head of my bed was by the fridge and the kitchen, and at night, I still don’t understand where they were jumping to, but they seemed to fly just above my face. The landlord said there were no mice and I was being a nuisance, the very first time that I asked him if he could suggest anything I might do. So before I moved out, I put packets of mouse poison everywhere that I could think of. So that if someone was interested in the bedsit, and opened a cupboard, or the fridge, or the oven (though I don’t think they needed a warning if they opened the oven door!) or looked out of the window, they had plenty of warning! And I stopped cleaning the mouse tracks and clearing the mouse droppings too, for the last few days. It looked like a scene from a horror movie when I moved out. It didn’t occur to me that he probably sent a cleaner in to deal with all that before advertising it again. Poor cleaner. But I hope a random packet remained to stop at least one person from moving in! Oh, and the London spiders? They ran across the room, faster than the speed of light, up my leg and beneath my clothing before I could even gasp. 😨

What a cozy woodland story! This was delightful, and you need to publish it on your blog!

I've been in similar wars, though right now we are in peaceful times. lol

Sounds like an ancient epic poem😂 glad for your truce

Just read this out loud to my preacher guy, and we both enjoyed a good chuckle. Here's a hint from the preacher himself for catching city mice (they are sophisticated and wily): cut a mini marshmallow in half and squish it onto the trap, then smear a small dab of peanut butter. By the time they get to the marshmallow, they're invested. The burst of sweetness from the marshmallow locks them in. A tragic end.

Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's a great tip, we will definitely be using that one😅
